A funnel cloud was spotted forming over Wirral earlier on Wednesday.

The funnel cloud, which is the stage before a tornado, formed over Leasowe.

The sighting took place after a day of bad weather hit the area.

Thunder, lightning and strong winds hit and heavy hail turned the streets white.

Alex Clerc filmed heavy hail battering his front drive in West Kirby which left a layer of ice.

Alex said: “The Video is mine from my driveway, as couldn’t even get off our drive to take my toddler to toddler group, as we live on a hill & all the cars were stuck outside”

The Met Office say that there could be more, hail, thunder and lightning on the way through Thursday.

A forecaster said: “A cold and frosty start, but bright start with sunny spells. Showers developing during the day, perhaps heavy with maybe hail, thunder and some hill snow. Chilly.”
