Huge emergency response after man enters the River Mersey

Wirral Coastguard were called out to a person entering the River Mersey late on Sunday night.

Rescue teams attended the incident Manor Groyne in New Brighton at 11:28 pm on Sunday.

As teams approached the scene, an update was received that the person had left the water and was now on the promenade.

New Brighton Lifeboats tractor spotted the person and was able to guide in Coastguard Rescue Officers.

Coastguard Rescue Officers initiated casualty care and North West Ambulance Service were requested to attend.

The person was given a precautionary check on scene before being transported to hospital.
