Thunderstorms are expected to break out over the next two days after the hottest day of the year.

Temperatures reached 30C on Wirral on Thursday and 33C in London making it the hottest day so far.

The weather is expected to cool down over the next few days with temperatures falling down to the mid teens.

Thunderstorm weather warnings have been issued through Friday and into the weekend.

Severe yellow warnings for thunderstorms are in place all day Friday until 9am Saturday.

The latest forecasts show thunderstorms are possible on Wirral from 2-4pm on Friday and 12-2pm on Saturday.

The Met Office say: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out on Friday afternoon and evening.

“Many places will miss the storms, but where they do occur, torrential downpours could bring 30-50 mm rain in a hour, with hail and lightning.

“The storms will slowly clear northeastwards on Friday afternoon and into the evening, though will probably not clear northeast Scotland until Saturday morning.”
