Dramatic footage shows New Brighton flooded by large waves and there’s more on the way

Parts of New Brighton flooded today as large waves over topped sea defences as the area was hit by more strong winds for the third day in a row.

At one point someone was caught on camera being rescued from the floodwaters and more video showed water flooding the car park near Fort Perch Rock.

One photographer who was documenting the scene was nearly taken out by a wave that seemed to come out of nowhere and other captures large waves crashing onto near by roads. The footage can be viewed at the top of the page.

There’s also more bad weather on the way as Storm Dennis has been forecast to slam into the area over the weekend.

Storm Dennis was named by the Met Office earlier in the day and will bring strong winds to the country.

Wirral has been issued a yellow severe weather warning through Saturday as winds could reach up to 70 mph.

Forecasters warn that large waves that batter the coast could be a risk to life.

Steve Ramsdale, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office said: “Another spell of very wet and windy weather is expected for Saturday, although Storm Dennis is currently not expected to be as severe as Ciara disruption is still likely.

“Our confidence in the forecast means we have been able to issue severe weather warnings well in advance, giving people time to prepare for potential impacts of the storm.

“With further warnings possible over the next few days people should keep up to date with the Met Office forecast using our website, app or by following us on social media.”
