Freezing fog set to blanket Merseyside as fog and ice warnings issued

Merseyside will wake up to freezing fog on Wednesday morning.

Temperatures will dip below freezing in some parts, forcing the Met Office to issue a severe weather warning for ice.

The Met Office warn “Icy patches are expected to develop on untreated surfaces, especially where they remain wet following showers or rainfall this afternoon and evening.”

Fog will also be a problem on Wednesday morning, with visibility reduced to less than 100 metres.

The Met Office say “The fog that has started to form in the south of the warning area will become more widespread during Tuesday evening and night.

“Fog is likely to be dense in places with visibility less than 100 metres, which may lead to some travel disruption and slower journey times.

“Fog will clear in the south and west of the area during Wednesday morning, but may persist until early afternoon in the north and east.”
