Merseyside warned to expect flooding after severe weather warnings issued

The Met Office has warned Merseyside to expect further flooding over the weekend.

The forecaster issued a yellow severe weather warning for rain as some areas could see up to 40mm of rain which could lead to flooding.

The worse of the weather is expected from 6pm Saturday to 5pm Sunday.

The Met Office say: “An area of persistent, heavy rain will arrive across Wales by Saturday evening before spreading to parts of northern England overnight.

“During Sunday persistent rain should tend to ease but will be followed by very heavy showers in places.

“Through the period many parts of this area will see 20 to 30 mm of rain. Where the heaviest rain will fall remains uncertain but there is the potential for 30 to 40 mm of rain to fall within a few hours in places”.

The weather warning comes after parts of Liverpool saw flooding earlier in the week when heavy rain hit the region.

On Tuesday the River Alt burst its banks and roads were closed across Liverpool after severe flooding.
