Met Office issues Merseyside thunderstorm weather warning as severe weather expected

After one of the warmest Easters on record the weather is set to take a dramatic turn.

The Met Office has warned Merseyside of thunderstorms as severe weather weather is expected through Wednesday afternoon.

The stormy weather is expected to push up through France and arrive over the UK during the afternoon.

The Met Office warn that parts of Merseyside could see heavy rain, hail, strong winds and thunder and lightning.

Not everywhere will see the thunder and lightning but many parts of the region will see heavy downpours of rain and strong winds.

The forecaster also warns that there could be damage to buildings from lightning strikes and flooding.

The Met Office say: “Although not everywhere will get one, heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to break out across central and northern England during Wednesday afternoon, easing from the south during the evening.

“These thunderstorms bring the potential for lightning strikes and hail, with sudden downpours and gusty winds.”

There’s a risk of further thunderstorms through Thursday too and by the weekend temperatures will be 12C colder than what they were one week ago.

The drop in temperatures is due to colder air arriving over the UK and by Saturday the mercury will be around 10C.

The Met Office severe weather warning for Thunderstorms is in place until 9pm tonight.
