Lyrid Meteor shower will peak TONIGHT over Merseyside

Stargazers will be in for a treat tonight as the Lyrid Meteor shower peaks across the UK.

Up to 20 meteors per hour will be visible across the country including Merseyside.

After another warm day across the region, clear skies will allow perfect visibility to spot the shower tonight.

The Met Office say: “There could be good viewing conditions tonight for the Lyrid Meteor Shower especially where skies are clearest in the northeast

“However, the waning moon may cast a little too much light.”

Each particle of dust from Comet C/1861 G1 will collide with the earths atmosphere creating streaks of light across the sky.

The best chances of spotting a meteor will be after 9pm tonight but give your eyes plenty of time to adjust to the darkness outside.
