Temperatures reach over 20c for the first time EVER in winter on the warmest February day on record

Monday was the warmest February day ever and for the first time in history temperatures climbed to over 20C in winter.

Temperatures in Trawsgoed, Ceredigion in Wales broke the record of 19.7C set in London in 1998.

Trawsgoed temperatures hit 20.3C setting the record for the warmest ever winter day.

Although the record was set in Wales, the mercury on Merseyside still reached 15C, which is above normal for the time of year.

The very mild conditions which is making temperatures much warmer than what is usual for the time of year are expected to continue through Tuesday on Merseyside.

As the week progresses temperatures will cool down slightly to around 10C.

The Met Office say: “After a chilly start it will soon become sunny, with blue skies across the region. It will be another very mild day, with light winds.

“After possible early fog, there will be some warm sunshine Wednesday. It will then become less mild and more unsettled from Thursday, with some heavy showers possible.”
