Strong winds bring down trees across Wirral blocking roads

Strong winds hit Merseyside overnight as the region was placed on a severe weather warning.

Gusts of 54 mph were recorded during Thursday morning which brought down trees across Wirral.

Fallen trees blocked roads at Townshend Avenue in Irby and Raby Road.

There was also reports of severe traffic disruption on Church Road near St Andrews Church in Bebington due to another fallen tree.

Sarah Davies said on twitter: “Traffic in Spiral and Bebington are at a standstill – including M53 J4 roundabout as there a couple of trees blocking roads round Church Road. be careful out there!”

John Kelly messaged our facebook page and said: “Avoid Church Road by St Andrews Church this morning, massive tree down road closed.”

Merseyside has been placed on another TWO days of strong winds, which are set to hit through Friday and Saturday.

The Met Office have warned the region to expect travel delays, power cuts and large costal waves as the strong winds hit.
