This is when Merseyside can expect more snow

Jimmy Riley

Merseyside woke up to snow this morning as freezing temperatures gripped the region overnight.

Snow was forecast to fall and the area was placed on yellow severe weather warnings for snow and ice.

The snow caused Liverpool Airport to shut this morning as workers raced to clear the runway to allow flights to take off.

More snow ?

The Met Office say there’s a risk of snow showers continuing at times through the tonight and low temperatures could lead to more ice.

Snow showers are also expected through Thursday night and into Friday which could lead to travel delays during the morning rush hour.

The Met Office say: “Areas of rain and snow are expected to move into the UK from the southwest from Thursday and through Friday.

“Any single period of rain and snow is not expected to last more than 6 to 9 hours but some snow accumulations are likely with 1-3 cm likely in places within the warning area and the potential for 5-10 cm, perhaps particularly over Wales and southwest England.

“Snow amounts will vary markedly across England and Wales with many places seeing very little accumulating snow.

“With cold air in place along with areas of rain and snow icy stretches are likely to form.”
