This shocking picture shows the moment a man decides to go for a swim in 60 mph winds.

The man decides to go for a swim in the dangerous conditions at New Brighton on Sunday, despite rescue teams warning for people to stay away.

The picture was taken by twitter user @01kbabman who described it as an ‘irresponsible act’.

Rescue teams warned yesterday to stay away from the coasts as the strong winds hit.

Wirral coastguard and New Brighton RNLI have warned members of the public to stay away from large waves and to avoid taking pictures.

Strong winds have battered Merseyside all day which has made dangerous conditions on coasts across the region.

Peak wind gusts of 61 mph were recorded which contributed to the collapse of a garage roof in Wallasey.

Winds are expected to ease overnight before the colder weather returns at the start of the new week.
