This mornings ICY conditions led to lots of incidents across Merseyside as the region woke up to freezing weather.
Temperatures dipped to -3.3C during the early hours of Wednesday turning any damp surfaces to ICE.
ICE caused problems on the Merseyrail network as ICE on the lines cancelled trains at Kirkby and suspended trains at Southport, Ormskirk, Chester and Ellesmere Port.
Hazardous driving conditions were also reported that lead to a two vehicle RTC on the M53 and a crash on the M57.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport also closed it’s runway due to ‘adverse weather conditions’ this morning, but was reopened an hour later.
There’s a risk of further travel problems on Thursday morning for Merseyside as more ICE weather warnings have been issued.
The Met Office are warning that ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths could lead to longer journey times and there may be ome injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
The Met Office say: “Another cold night with a risk of ice, either where surfaces remain wet from daytime showers, or where further wintry showers fall onto frozen surfaces during the night and on Thursday morning.
“Showers will be a mix of rain, sleet and snow, with some slight accumulations possible, mainly above 200 metres.
“Cold and frosty at first with some icy stretches on thursday, but bright with sunny spells through the morning.
“Turning cloudier during the afternoon with light rain arriving by the evening.”
