ICE and wintry showers forecast to hit Merseyside TONIGHT as region issued severe weather warning

Merseyside has been told to expect ICE and wintry showers during Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.

Temperatures will drop to freezing overnight which will lead to ICE in some areas as Arctic air sweeps the country.

The Met Office have placed the region on a yellow severe weather warning for ICE from 10pm on Wednesday to 11am on Thursday.

Icy conditions could lead to injuries from slips and falls as there could be ICE on untreated roads and pavements.

There could also be some wintry showers down to lower levels on Merseyside as the freezing weather holds its grip.

The Met Office say: “Icy patches are expected to develop later Wednesday evening or overnight over southern Scotland and Northern Ireland and during the early hours of Thursday over England and and Wales.

“There will also be some wintry showers about, mainly over hills and mountains, but also to some lower levels at times, most likely in parts of Scotland and northern, eastern and central England.

“With the exception of high ground, most places will not see any snow settling.”

Winds will also be gusting at 40 mph meaning the actualy feel of the weather will be closer to -3C.

Forecasters are also indicating that Merseyside could see it’s first significant snowfall next week.

Their forecast say that Merseyside will see snow during Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
