Man dies after falling into the water near Marine Point in New Brighton

A rescue operation was launched last night to rescue a man who had fallen into the water near the travelodge hotel at Marine Point in New Brighton.

Emergency services including the RNLI and coastguard rushed to the scene to attempt to save the man at around 9:42pm on Monday night.

The coastguard managed to recover the 36-year-old male from the water but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Wirral Coastguard said on their Facebook page: “The team were tasked to an incident near to the Travelodge in New Brighton.

“As well as Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, Merseyside Police, North West Ambulance Service and RNLI New Brighton Lifeboat also attended.”

“Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 936 from Caernarfon was mobilised but stood down on route to the incident.”

They added: “Despite the best efforts of the Coastguard Rescue Officers who entered the water in difficult conditions to rescue the man and then attempted resuscitation with our Fire and Rescue Service colleagues, the man sadly passed away.

“Our thoughts go out the the mans family and friends at this difficult time.”
