Dramatic footage shows terrifying conditions on a Wirral RNLI lifeboat during Storm Ali

This on-board footage shows what it is like for RNLI crews to smash through large waves during a storm.

The footage was filmed as Storm Ali hit on Wednesday and although the crew were taking part in a training exercise, it still looks very dramatic.

Large waves can be seen crashing over the lifeboat as winds of over 50 mph battered the Wirral.

Hoylake RNLI said: “Our Shannon class lifeboat ‘Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood’ was launched on exercise as part of trials for her launch and recovery system and for the assessment of one of its operators so that he could be formally passed-out as qualified. The winds were 45 knots.”
