Colder air from the Arctic will send temperatures falling this week, bringing a return to the chilly weather the country saw before the heatwave arrived.

By Friday temperatures will have dropped to as low as 10C in Scotland and 13C on Merseyside.

This will mean a noticeably colder feel to the weather as the weekend arrives.

As well as a drop in temperatures on Friday, a weather front will bring rain, which will be heavy at times.

The Met Office said: “Cool Friday with heavy blustery showers, perhaps with thunder. Mainly dry on Saturday with sunny spells.

“Sunday starting fine and cold, but turning windier with rain later”.
