Video footage sent to us by a reader showed difficult driving conditions on the M53, which later lead to a crash and travel delays.
One road user near on Queens Drive near Sefton Park tried to negotiate the floodwaters, but got stuck after water flooded the vehicle.
Merseyside Police tweeted: Flood Water QUEENS DRIVE towards MOSSLEY HILL, driver thought they could make it through and didn’t realise how deep it was. please take care on the roads this evening, especially on the motorway where were getting reports of standing water.

Merseyside has been placed on yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms until 10pm Sunday night as further heavy thundery downpours could be expected.
The region was warned that further flooding and damage to homes could lead to road closures as up to 30mm of rain could fall.
The Met Office say: “Mostly cloudy with heavy and possibly thundery showers moving northwards across all parts this evening and overnight, possibly merging into some longer spells of rain at times.
“The rain easing by dawn. A milder night than last night and humid.”
