Severe weather warnings issued for Merseyside as thunderstorms could lead to flooding in parts of the region


The Met Office has placed parts of Merseyside on a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms.

The forecaster expects the the region could see thunderstorms at any point today until 9pm tonight.

Torrential rain will also be a threat as expects warn that some areas could see flood ing due to hail and large amounts of rain.

The Met Office say: “Thunderstorms have developed over parts of northern England will move eastwards during the rest of Friday and clear into the North Sea during Friday evening.

“Many places will miss these but there is the potential for these to intensify on Friday afternoon to give 20-30 mm of rain in an hour and perhaps 40 mm in 3 hours.

“Most places will see much less rainfall however. Lightning is also likely associated with the heavy rain.”

Although the threat of severe weather, the weather is set to improve over the weekend as sunny spells are forecast throughout Sunday.

Temperatures could reach into the mid 20’s giving a fine end to the weekend.

The Met Office say: “Dry, warm and sunny on Sunday. Perhaps turning cloudier through Monday and Tuesday with some showery rain, possibly heavy.

“Remaining warm and muggy both by day and overnight.”
