Merseyside upgraded to an AMBER heat alert as they warn of heatwave conditions continuing through the weekend

The Met Office has warned Merseyside that there is a 90 % probability of heatwave conditions from now until 9am Monday.

The very warm, locally hot, conditions are set to continue through the weekend with the highest temperatures likely to occur on Sunday.

UV will be high through the weekend with plenty of sunny spells and there’s no rain in the forecast for at least another week.

A heat health alert is triggered when the Met Office confirms threshold temperatures for one of more regions have been reached for one day and the following night, and the forecast for the next day has a greater than 90% confidence level that the day threshold temperature will be met.

This stage requires social and healthcare services to target specific actions at high-risk groups.

The Met Office advise: “Stay out of the sun. Keep your home as cool as possible – shading windows and shutting them during the day may help.

“Open them when it is cooler at night. Keep drinking fluids. If there’s anybody you know, for example an older person living on their own, who might be at special risk, make sure they know what to do.”

“Saturday another dry day with plenty of sunshine. Once again with light winds there will be a hot feel as temperatures rise just slightly higher than Friday. Maximum temperature 29 °C.”

Temperatures will gradually take a bit of a tumble next week as fresher air moves in, signalling an end to the heatwave.
