It’s the longest day of the year today and this is how long it will last


Summer solstice is today which means it is the longest day of the year.

Today has an average of 16h 39m of daylight in the UK – that’s 8h 49m more than during the winter solstice.

The solstice takes place when the tilt of the earths axis is most aligned with the sun, providing the most amount of daylight.

The day after Summer Solstice, days will gradually get shorter until the Winter Solstice which is the shortest day and the longest night of the year, this will occur on December 21st.

The Met Office have confirmed that hot temperatures are set to bake Merseyside and the rest of the country next week.

The weather will be hotter than average for the time of year and it’s all thanks to high pressure sitting above the country.

Temperatures are set to reach 30C across UK which will result in people flocking to beaches right across Merseyside.
