Merseyside woke up to heavy snow this morning after it was predicted that the region would see mostly sleet or rain.
The region usually misses out on the snow due to the geography of the area, such as being close to the sea, but snow fell this morning as rain bumped into colder air.
A Met Office warning wasn’t in place for most of Merseyside , but warned areas near the warning that they could see snow until 11am on Thursday.

Some schools were shut across Merseyside and there was reported transport disruption on the Merseyrail lines.
The 6:20am train from Ormskirk was stranded when an ‘explosion’ on the line caused power supply problems. Several trains were cancelled but resumed after 10am.
