Next weeks weather will bring a real risk of snow and ICE, as the region is put in the freezer.

Polar air has arrived over the UK and forecasters are predicting next could be the coldest spell of winter so far.

The Met Office warn that temperatures will dip even further than the weekend, as even colder air rushes in over the country, this will mean daytime temperatures of  just 4C and nightly lows well below freezing.

This will result in some snow showers during Monday and Tuesday, as weather fronts hit the colder air sitting above the country.

The Met Office has issued Merseyside a severe weather warning for snow and ICE through the start of the next week, the warnings are in place from 9pm Monday to 3pm Tuesday.

The Met Office say: “A spell of rain, sleet and increasingly snow will move east across the UK on Monday night and Tuesday, gradually weakening across England and Wales.

“Some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

“As rain, sleet and snow clears Northern Ireland and Scotland overnight, ice may form on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths”.
