Merseyside has been upgraded to an amber severe weather warning as MORE heavy snow is expected

Snow fell across the region on Friday and now the met office are predicting that more is on the way.

The Met Office has upgraded Merseyside from a yellow warning, to an amber warning for Sunday.

The weather is expected to get very wintry across the region, with the Met Office confident that heavy snow will affect Merseyside.

The weather warning is in place from 4am to 6pm on Sunday, as a weather front containing heavy rain will clash with colder air above the country, turning to snow.

10-20cm of snow could be expected across the area, which could lead to severe travel problems such as cancellations, delays and even some parts of rural communities being cut off.

A forecaster at the Met Office said: “A band of rain, heavy at times, is expected to move eastwards over the UK. With cold air in place, a spell of heavy snow looks likely to develop on its northern edge.

“10 cm looks likely quite widely within the warning area, with 15-20 cm in places. There is increasing certainty in the track and location of the heaviest snow”.
