Wirral and Liverpool warned of HEAVY SNOW this weekend as Met Office issue more weather warnings

The Met Office today issued further weather warnings for snow that cover Merseyside.

There are already weather warnings in place for Friday, as snow could pepper the region  when rain hits the colder arctic air over the UK.

The latest warning is in place for the whole of Sunday as forecasters believe a significant amount of snow will fall across the region.

On Sunday another weather front will track across the Atlantic and with the UK still sitting under cold air, any rain will again turn to snow.

The weather front will contain a lot more rain than on Friday, so where areas do see snow, it could be very heavy in places.

This could lead to road, rail and air travel delays, with the potential for vehicles to become stranded or public transport to be cancelled and rural communities with limited access routes could become cut off.

A forecaster at the Met Office said: “A band of rain, heavy at times, is expected to move eastwards over the UK. With cold air in place, a spell of snow looks likely to develop on its northern edge.

“1-5 cm is possible quite widely, and up to 10 cm in places. Over higher ground, 20 cm is possible in a few places.

“There is currently a good deal of uncertainty over the precise track of the areas of rain and snow”.
