This is the moment rescuers frantically tried to salvage two vans trapped on a Wirral beach today.

The vehicles become trapped in the sand on New Brighton beach as the fast tide began to close in.

Unfortunately the vans could not be rescued and were claimed by the River Mersey this morning.

A coastguard spokesman said: “We were called at 11.23am. It’s a couple of vans that had become surrounded by tidal water.

“Nobody was in the vans and they are in the process of being recovered now that the tide is going out.”
