Merseyside placed on severe weather warning as 60mph winds set to batter the region TONIGHT

The Met Office have placed Merseyside on a yellow severe weather warning for strong winds.

The worst of the winds are expected between 9pm Wednesday – 9am Thursday.

60mph winds are expected to batter parts of Merseyside as an area of low pressure sweeps across the region tonight.

Winds could top 40-50mph in residential areas and with heavy rain, localised flooding could also be a risk.

Whilst this weather is not unusual for the time of year, it brings the potential for disruption to transport, tree damage and temporary power cuts.

The Met Office say: “An area of low pressure crossing northern UK overnight will bring a swathe of strong winds on its southern flank, clearing latest from eastern areas”.
