An equinox is an astronomical event in which the plane of Earth’s equator passes through the center of the Sun.
On an equinox, day and night are of approximately equal duration all over the planet – a day and night of roughly 12 hours each.

There are two equinox’s every year around 20 March and 22 September.
Today’s equinox marks the start of Autumn after which nights start to get longer than days, until the spring equinox next year.
