Wirral coastguard issues safety advice ahead of Storm Aileen’s arrival

The Met Office has named the first storm of the season and it is set to batter Wirral and Liverpool tonight.

The upgrade of the weather warning to amber and naming of storm Aileen is down to an area of low pressure heading our way tonight.

Winds of up to 70mph can be expected during the early hours of Wednesday, which could lead to damage to trees and perhaps buildings, power cuts, flying debris and large coastal waves.

Wirral coastguard have warned to think carefully about the risks you take and to be extremely careful during and after Storm Aileen.

Their Facebook post said: “Please think carefully about the risks you take and be extremely careful when near any body of water during bad weather.

“No photograph or selfie is worth risking your life for.

“Please be careful and if you do get into trouble on the coast on see someone who needs help, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard”.
