The Met Office has upgraded Merseyside’s severe weather warning to amber and have named the first storm of the season.
The upgrade of weather warning and naming of storm Aileen is down to an area of low pressure heading our way tonight.

Storm Aileen will bring a brief spell of very strong westerly winds with gusts of 65-75 mph during the early hours of Wednesday.
The Met Office expect that the worst of the winds will be over the north west and parts of Merseyside.

Strong winds could result in damage to trees and perhaps buildings, as well as power cuts are expected.
Flying debris and large coastal waves are possible, and these could lead to injuries, the met office warning reads.

A forecaster has said: “The strongest winds are expected to arrive in the west around midnight and move quickly eastwards, with the worst of the winds likely to affect any one place for 1-2 hours.
“Gusts of 70-75 mph are most likely over hills and western coasts, but even further east gusts of 60-70 mph are possible”.
