Merseyside sizzles in temperatures hotter than Portugal, but thunderstorms are on the way

Merseyside basked in temperatures of 26.3C today as warm weather gripped the region.

The warm weather was thanks to warmer air from Spain creeping up towards the UK, which sent temperatures soaring.

The warm temperatures even put Portugal’s capital city Lisbon in the shade, as they only managed temperatures of 23C.
