Forecasters are predicting that temperatures this week will beat any other May day since 2012, when temperatures reached 30.9C on 25th May.

The mercury across the UK could rise to over 30C in places on Thursday and Friday as warm air from Spain heats up the country.

The warmest of the weather is expected in the South of the UK, while on Merseyside temperatures nearer 25C are likely.

High UV levels are also expected, so burning could occur if out in the sun for long periods of time.

The Met Office say: “Dry at first with increasing amounts of sunshine, and becoming very warm or hot for many.

“However, there is an increasing chance of heavy thundery showers arriving later on Saturday”.
