Pink moon could be visible over Mereyside tonight, but what is it ?

The full moon in April which is known as the Pink Moon rose on Tuesday 11th April and there’s another chance to spot it tonight, if skies are clear.

A pink moon is when the moon is on the exact opposite side of the Earth as the sun.

Although April’s full moon is known as the Pink Moon, don’t expect it to look particularly pink!

It’s named after pink flowers called wild ground phlox, which bloom in early spring and appear throughout the United States and Canada.

The date of Easter is the first Sunday following the full moon, this year Easter falls on 16 April, a week after the Pink Moon.

The Met Office say: “It will be mostly dry overnight with clear spells allowing it to turn chilly.

“Cloud will thicken later in the night, perhaps giving the odd spot of rain. Minimum Temperature 4C”.
