The northern lights may be visible this week on Merseyside as a minor geomagnetic storm is expected across the north of the UK.

Space forecasters say a KP5 storm could be on the way over the next few nights, which means the storm could be seen further south over the UK, resulting in some chances to spot it on Merseyside.

Just after midnight on Thursday could provide the best chance to see the spectacular show with chances to see it for the rest of the week if skies are clear.

The Met Office forecast reads: “Mostly dry but often cloudy over the weekend, although less cold.

“Becoming wet and windy on Monday with a spell of heavy rain, clearing to sunshine and scattered blustery showers”.
