It’s the winter solstice today, but what is it ?

The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year meaning there is less daylight than any other day of the year.

The solstice occurs when when the sun’s daily maximum height in the sky is at its lowest, and the North Pole is tilted furthest away from the sun.

From tomorrow days will start to get longer and weather experts believe that storms could batter the UK over the Christmas weekend.

The Met Office yellow weather warnings are in place from 9am 23rd December to 9am 24th December, so if you’re heading to see family over the Christmas break bare this in mind.
