Storm Angus is set to batter the UK as Met Office names first storm of the season

The Met Office have officially named the first storm of the season as 80mph winds are expected to batter the UK on Sunday.

The south east of England will see the worst of the winds as the Met Office have issued severe weather warnings for strong winds for the area.

Merseyside is expected to miss the worst of the weather as forecasts indicate that the region will see winds creep up to just 25mph.

No weather warnings for wind have been issued for Merseyside, but temperatures are expected to be very chilly this weekend.

The Met Office forecast reads: “It’ll be a cold start to the day, with icy patches in places.

“However, there will be a mixture of sunny spells and showers, these will be wintry over the hills. The showers easing during the afternoon.

“Rain, hill snow and strong winds will gradually clear away north-eastwards during Sunday morning, with brighter skies and showers following into the afternoon. Winds will be easing. Feeling cold”.
