Merseyside saw heavy rain, thunder and lightning today as the rest of Britain sweltered in record temperatures.

Infact, it got so hot, it was the hottest September day in over 100 years, but the region saw none of that as storms battered the area.

Outbreaks of showery rain turned torrential and thundery across parts of the region around 2pm but the Met office say the weather will improve tomorrorow.

Temperatures are expected to reach into the high twenties with plenty of sunny spells on Wednesday.

The met office forecast reads: “A fairly cloudy start to the day, though cloud soon breaking to leave a dry, warm and humid day with good sunny spells. The maximum temperature will be 27 °C.
