Mersesyide’s brief return of summer to be replaced by much cooler air this weekend

After a not so bad week of warmer weather, fresher air from the Atlantic will bring an end to the brief return of summer this weekend.

Temperatures reached 25C on Tuesday, as Merseyside saw an unexpected return of summer.

Thursday morning saw heavy rain that battered the region but the sunshine soon came out to reveal another bright and warm day.

However, the brief warm spell is set to end this weekend as cooler Atlantic air returns to the UK.

By Saturday temperatures will have dropped as low as 16C and the return of a westerly airflow will mean heavy showers at times.

The Met Office forecast reads: Fresher, mostly dry with sunny spells on Thursday. Scattered showers on Friday.

Overnight rain will clear east early on Saturday, with brighter and showery conditions following from the west.
