Brief return of summer won’t last as wind & rain is forecast for Merseyside

Merseyside has baked in temperatures of 24C this week which resulted in local parks and beaches being packed by sun worshippers.

Throughout the week our facebook page was flooded with sunset pictures and spectacular drone footage of New Brighton in the summer sun.

However, the wind and rain will return and temperatures will drop to around 17C, it’s expected to continue on Saturday when there could be flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder.

Winds are expected to be strong, especially at costal areas where speeds could reach up to 40mph.

The unsettled weather is expected to last until Monday.

A Met Office forecaster said: “Get out and make the most of the sunshine and bright conditions until Thursday as frequent showers and the risk of gales arrive on Friday.

“It turns really quite unsettled with some heavy showers from Friday, with the potential for gales with localised 45 to 50mph gusts in the South, with the North also affected on Saturday, with 35 to 40mph gusts.

“Next week looks unsettled with a further area of low pressure.”
