Merseyside hotter than Miami and Athens as the region baked in it’s hottest day of the year.

Merseyside saw temperatures reach 31.8C today, which is the regions hottest day of the year.

The 31C temps put Miami and Athens in the shade and people flocked to beaches and beer gardens to soak up the sun.

The North West Ambulance Service also reported a 15% increase in calls over the last 24 hours due to the warm weather.

Even night time temperatures will be over 20C on Tuesday, which may result in some difficulty sleeping.

After today, temperatures are expected to slowly decrease through the week, however, it will still feel warm at times with temperatures averaging around 20C.

There’s also a risk of a stormy end to the hottest day of the year as the Met Office has forecast storms on Tuesday night through to Wednesday.

The warning reads: “Very warm, moist air spreading north and northeast across the western side of the UK is expected to produce thunderstorms later on Tuesday, then transfer eastwards during Wednesday.

“Rainfall will be very variable, and the extent of thunderstorms is uncertain, but some places could see around 30 mm in an hour and more than 50 mm in a few hours.
