Firefighters called out to Wirral home that was struck by lightning


Firefighters were called to a fire at a property in Birkenhead following a lightning strike today.

Two fire engines attended the incident, which occurred on Larch Road in Tranmere, just after 2pm.

Fire crews found the fire, which occurred in the first-floor bedroom, to be out on arrival. All occupants were out of the house and uninjured.

Firefighters ventilated the property and investigated the cause, which appeared to be a lightning strike.

The bedroom and contents were partially damaged by heat, smoke and fire.

Three further first-floor rooms were damaged by smoke.

Fire crews remained at the scene for around 40 minutes.
