Woman pulled from the River Mersey in dramatic New Brighton rescue

A woman was rescued from the River Mersey today after getting into difficulty in the water.

The woman apparently fell into the water not far from Perch Rock at around 2pm.

The coastguard and RNLI teams were on scene within minutes to pull the woman to safety.

After the rescue an RNLI hovercraft became stuck on the rocks on New Brighton beach.

Chris Danks on twitter captured the scene just after the rescue, as the RNLI were trying to pull their hovercraft off the rocks.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said “A woman was rescued from the water.

“She was rescued just before 2.30pm by the RNLI and checked by paramedics at the scene before being taken on to Arrowe Park hospital.”
