Christmas Day: Merseytravel will provide special free bus services on Wirral .

110X New Brighton – Birkenhead – Clatterbridge Hospital

118X Mill Park – Arrowe Park – New Brighton

Boxing Day Selected bus routes will operate and may finish earlier than usual. To check what busses are running click here.

New Years Day: All New Year’s Day services will follow their normal routes. NO OTHER BUSES will operate on New Year’s Day. To find details on which services are operating on New Year’s Day click here.



Christmas Eve: Normal services will finish early.

  • Liverpool Central to Chester 8:45pm
  • Chester to Liverpool Central 8pm
  • Liverpool Central to Ellesmere Port 8:30pm
  • Ellesmere Port to Liverpool Central 8:19pm
  • Liverpool Central to West Kirby 8:35pm
  • West Kirby to Liverpool Central 8:01pm
  • Liverpool Central to New Brighton 8:50pm
  • New Brighton to Liverpool Central 8:23pm
Last cross-river train: Liverpool Central to Hamilton Square 9pm
Christmas Day: NO TRAINS
Boxing Day: Trains will run for the first time ever but only on selected stations and timetables will finish early.

Liverpool Central – Hooton: these trains will only stop at the following stations – James Street, Birkenhead Central, Rock Ferry, Bromborough and Hooton.

Liverpool Central – West Kirby/New Brighton: these trains will only stop at the following stations – Conway Park, Birkenhead North then New Brighton or Leasowe to West Kirby

New Years Eve: Merseyrail Wirral Line trains will run to Saturday timetables with an early finish. Last trains depart at the same times shown above for Christmas Eve.

New Year’s Day: Merseyrail Wirral Line trains will run to Sunday timetables.

Mersey Ferries

Christmas Eve: Normal service with an early finish. The last ferry will depart from the Pier Head at 2pm, arriving at Seacombe 2:20pm, Woodside 2:30pm and finishing at Pier Head at 2:50pm.

Christmas Day: No Ferries

Boxing Day: No Ferries

New Years Day: No Ferries

Mersey Tunnels

The Kingsway (Wallasey) Tunnel will be open throughout the holiday period.

The Queensway (Birkenhead) Tunnel will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Thursday 24 December until 6:30am on Saturday 26 December.
