Storm Desmond will bring strong winds to Merseyside this weekend

The Met Office have named the UK’s 4th storm of the season as gales of over 70mph could affect the Northern UK.

Merseyside is braced for strong winds as weather warnings have been issued for the region from 12:05am Saturday to 6am Sunday.

The Met Office say that the worst conditions seem likely to be during Saturday afternoon and evening on Merseyside when gusts of up to around 60 mph are possible even at lower levels, with hills seeing higher gusts.

The Met Office weather warning reads: “Winds may be strong enough to bring down trees and perhaps cause damage to buildings and other structures.

“Please be aware of the likelihood of travel disruption on roads and ferry routes. A period of heavy rain may also affect the area”.
