The Met Office have issued weather warnings for this weekend as winds of up to 70mph will batter the region.

This has urged Wirral Council to warn the public that flooding may occur at promenades or surrounding costal roads during high tide.

The warnings issued by the council are for two hours either side of high tide on Saturday at 12:13am and 1.15pm and on Sunday at 12:57am and 1.15pm.

Flooding is expected at South Parade in West Kirby , North Parade, Hoylake , Meols Parade and Kings Parade and Ian Fraser Walk in New Brighton .

Wirral Council said: “No surge data is currently available for Sunday’s tides and predicted conditions may change over the next 24 hours.”

The weather warnings have also forced the cancellation of the Christmas lights switch on in Oxton, which was due to take place this Saturday, this will now take place on Friday, December 4th.
