Wirral town Liscard will switch on its much improved Christmas lights this weekend

After last years disaster of appearing in a Buzzeed list of some of the worst christmas trees in the UK, a £25,000 money raising campaign called Light Up Liscard was launched to improve the towns festive appearance.

Light Up Liscard raised international attention in April by setting up a christmas tree, lights, decorations and even Santa turned up, all 8 months ahead of Christmas Day. Watch the Highlights Below:

The Christmas event for the big switch on this weekend has been funded by donations from local businesses and Wirral Council’s Wallasey Constituency Committee, which gave £7,000 to the project.

Danny McLeod from Argyle Taxis who has been a driving force behind ‘Light Up Liscard’, said: “This project is designed to show how a community and its businesses can all pull together for the greater good.

“Our thanks go out to all those who have helped make this event happen by their kind donations.

“It will be a great event and there will be fun for the whole family.”

Liscard’s new and improved Christmas tree and lights are set to be unveiled this Saturday, November 14 at 4:30pm

There will also be an appearance by Father Christmas and characters from Frozen, Christmas music, a choir performance and firework display.
