Wirral Coastguard called out to a “distressed male” in the River Mersey


Wirral coastguard were called out to Otterspool promenade, Liverpool at around 7.30am this morning after police received a report for a concern for safety.

The man was in a distressed state close to the riverside with a rope or ligature around his neck and was threatening to jump in the Mersey.

The male then entered the water at around 8:40am but was recovered by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Marine Unit and transferred to New Brighton Inshore Lifeboat.

He was then taken to the marine rescue boat’s landing stage at the Pier Head in Liverpool.

The casualty was passed on to North West Ambulance Service to receive necessary treatment at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
