Who could think of anything better on warm summers day, a nice cold beer & an Ice cream..
Although the UK doesn’t always have the best of summers, new figures show that the sales of ice cream, bicycles, tents, beer and cider are all rising sharply each year in the UK.
According to the Office of National Statistics enough ice cream was made last year to fill half a billion cones, thats enough to fill more than seven cones for every person in the UK.
£723million of ice-cream was manufactured in the UK last year, which is a 22% increase on 2008.
This increase has been put down to last years warm summer, which also seen an increase in beer and cider sales.
Interestingly figures show that beer and cider sales change depending on the weather and temperatures.
The warm summers of 2011 and 2014 saw annual sales of the beverages rise considerably, while figures dipped in 2010 and 2012 when the temperature was below the mean average.
Bob Atkinson, travel expert at Travelsupermarket.com, said: “People just want to make the most of their weekends.
“As soon as we get a hint of good weather, everyone rushes down to the supermarket to buy barbecue goods and ice cream”.
