This week will start off wet and chilly with the potential for flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder. Temperatures will be below average.

Tuesday will be another cool feeling day, with sunshine and further showers for most. Many of the showers will be heavy at times, with some hail and thunder. It will stay breezy. The maximum temperature will be 13C.

Wednesday will be a cool and breezy day, with sunny spells developing by late afternoon. The maximum temperature will be 11C

Thursday is set to be predominantly dry and cloudy with the chance of some bright spells. The maximum temperature will be 13C

Friday thicker cloud will occur with some patchy rain spreading slowly south-eastwards. For some areas the rain could be hit or miss. The maximum temperature will be 14C

Leon Brown, forecaster for The Weather Channel UK, said: “Early in the week we will have an area of low pressure sitting over the UK becoming quite unstable with some slow-moving and heavy showers likely on Tuesday.

“There will be hail and thunder too and the potential for localised flash floods.

“Towards the end of the week it looks like another area of low pressure will dive southwards from Iceland, so it’s a cool and showery prospect for the weekend.”

The weekend is set to be mostly cloudy looking at current forecasts.

Saturday will be the best day of the weekend as it’s meant to stay dry. Light rain is expected on Sunday with maximum temperatures all weekend feeling a chilly 13C.
