Solar Eclipse: What to REALLY expect on Wirral & the rest of Merseyside


Lets hope its clear weather on the 20th!

Britain’s most complete solar eclipse in 16 years will block out as much as 90% of sunlight across the region on Friday March 20th.

With only 2 weeks to go here’s what to expect on Wirral and Merseyside.

The blackout will begin around 8:26am and the maximum eclipse, when the moon is nearest the middle of the sun, will be at 9.32am and It is due to end at 10.41am.

England will be treated to a partial eclipse of more than 80 per cent of the sun obscured – this rises to more than 90 per cent in Scotland.

The further north you move, the greater the percentage of light that will be blocked.

Eclipse details

Although not a total eclipse, 89.5% of the sun will blocked out by the moon which will still provide an awesome sight with the correct safe equipment.

Merseyside won’t be plunged into total darkness though, the region will will experience the same light conditions similar to sunset or dusk.

The partial eclipse will been seen across Northern Africa, Europe and Northern Asia.

The region is not due another solar eclipse until 2026.
